How to Get More Pet Parents to Your Vet Clinic (Without Big Ad Budgets)

By Ratna Raju Kololagi, founder of Scoobycares · 15 October 2026

Most pet parents find a vet by searching "vet near me" on their phone and choosing from the top three results. Here's how to be one of them, and how to keep the pet parents who come in.

Complete your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is what shows on Google Maps and in "vet near me" searches. It's free, and for most local clinics it brings more new patients than any paid ad.

  • Choose the right category (Veterinarian or Animal hospital) and add secondary ones such as Pet groomer if you offer it
  • Keep opening hours exact, including Sundays, holidays and emergency hours
  • Add real photos: the front of the clinic so people can find it, the waiting area, the team and the treatment room
  • List your services with prices where you can: consultation, vaccination, deworming, grooming
  • Add your website and a booking link
  • Post an update every week or two: a vaccination camp, a monsoon tick warning, new timings

Ask every happy pet parent for a review

The number and freshness of reviews has a big effect on where you appear on Google Maps and on whether people choose you. Happy clients rarely leave a review unless asked. The best time to ask is right after a good visit: send a short WhatsApp message with your review link the same day.

Reply to every review, including the bad ones. A calm, kind reply to a complaint often wins more trust than a page full of five stars. Never buy reviews or offer discounts for them; it breaks Google's rules and your profile can be removed.

Have a simple website with online booking

Many pet parents check a clinic's website before calling, and some will only book if they can do it online, especially late at night when you're closed. Your site doesn't need to be large: your services, doctors, timings, location map, prices for common services and a booking button are enough.

Pages that answer local questions ("puppy vaccination in Indiranagar", "cat clinic in Pune") help you appear in more searches.

Turn first visits into regular patients

Getting a new client costs far more than keeping one. Most of a pet's lifetime care is predictable: vaccinations, boosters, deworming, tick prevention and yearly check-ups. If the clinic reminds the pet parent at the right time, they come back to you instead of going to whichever clinic is nearest that day.

Send reminders on WhatsApp, where pet parents actually read them, and include a way to book straight from the message.

Be useful outside the clinic

Post short, practical tips on Instagram and your Google profile: what to do in a heatstroke, which plants are toxic to cats, how to spot tick fever. Run a vaccination or adoption camp with a local shelter or housing society. Partner with nearby groomers, pet shops and boarding places that will refer pet parents to you.

Measure what works

Ask every new client how they found you and note it on their record. After three months you'll know whether Google, Instagram, referrals or walk-ins bring your patients, and where to spend your time.

Common questions

What is the best way to market a vet clinic in India?

For most local clinics: a complete Google Business Profile, a steady flow of genuine reviews, a website with online booking, and reminders that bring existing clients back for vaccinations and check-ups.

How do I get more Google reviews for my clinic?

Ask happy clients right after a good visit, and send them your review link on WhatsApp the same day. Reply to every review.

Does a vet clinic need a website?

Yes. Many pet parents check the website before calling, and online booking lets them book when the clinic is closed.
