Vaccines only protect a pet when every dose is given on time. The weak point is rarely the clinic's care; it's the pet parent remembering a date months away.
The single most useful thing a clinic can do is write down the next due date when the current dose is given, along with the vaccine, dose number, batch and the doctor who gave it. Without that date, nobody can remind anyone.
A reminder on the due date itself is too late for most families to plan a visit. Around ten days before gives them time to pick a day; a second nudge closer to the date catches anyone who forgot to book.
In India, WhatsApp is where pet parents actually read messages. For automatic reminders sent by software, a clinic needs the WhatsApp Business Platform with message templates approved by Meta; messages from a personal phone don't scale and can get the number restricted.
Plain SMS also works, but commercial SMS in India needs DLT registration of the sender and message templates before carriers deliver it.
Put a booking link in the reminder. If the pet parent can choose a date and time within your opening hours right away, far fewer reminders end with 'I'll call later'.
When the dose is recorded, the booking should close and the next due date should start the cycle again. The pet parent gets a message that the dose was given and when the next one is due.
